Practicing medicine as a Physician Assistant with the supervision of a licensed physician is an exciting and rewarding career. The healthcare system has embraced the P.A. profession, and P.A.s are providing health care in a multitude of settings and increasing access to care for many patients. Physician Assistants are working in family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, emergency medicine, and many other specialties in medicine.

PAs are trained in screening patients, taking histories, performing physical exams, as well as diagnosing disease, and prescribing medication and therapeutic procedures.

Training to become a P.A. usually requires a two year master's degree after graduation from college.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FOR MUSC:  I received this answer about recommendations in Oct of 2009:

"All of our reference forms are standardized and found on the supplemental section of the program’s application. We don’t require large committee packets like the large web-based application systems like AMCAS wants. So we will accept separate personalized letters, but the standardized forms have to be filled out first.

Physician Assistant: The reference form can be filled out by either a committee or individual. The letter will only count as one, even though done by a committee."
