Osteopathic medicine was developed as a method of treatment emphasizing the musculoskeletal system, and a more holistic approach to patient care. Training in osteopathic medicine includes courses in the same areas as allopathic medicine such as physiology, anatomy, biochemistry and pharmacology, but also include training in healing through physical manipulation. Osteopathic physicians diagnose and treat diseases and injuries similarly to more traditional "allopathic" physicians, but may place a bit more of an emphasis on preventive medicine. Admission requirements are similar or identical to those of allopathic medical schools. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
