Guerillas, Immigration...A Real Life Story

A study of the economic and political reasons for immigration focusing on the story of a former Colombian guerrilla and his attempt to escape persecution through immigration. Includes videotaped interviews done in the Dominican Republic.

Meredith organized sports teams with SCORE International in the Dominican Republic and Argentina the summer after graduation. After working for Milliken in Tryon,North Carolina where she also taught English to Hispanic immigrants, she took a job teaching English at a university in Viña del Mar, Chile. dentonmeredith@hotmail.com

Argentina: Las elecciones presidenciales de 1999

A study of the most recent presidential election in Argentina, including historical background, political parties, and candidates. Includes video clips from Argentine political campaigns collected during study abroad in La Plata.

Flight of the Monarch: Community and Conservation

A study of the life cycle and migration of the monarch butterfly through North America to its breeding grounds in Mexico and the environmental factors which affect its survival. Includes video and images collected during an internship at the Monarch reserve in Mexico.

Kristen had a summer internship at the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington the summer after graduation. She was in Ecuador for two years studying environmental management at the Universidad de San Francisco in Quito. She is now in law school. hiteka@hotmail.com

Ryan Holler

Diversity of Ecuador: Andean and Amazonian Cultures

A study of the diverse cultures of Ecuador including materials and photographs from an Interim trip to the Andes and Amazon regions of Ecuador.

Ryan studied theater at New York University after leaving Wofford. She returned to Columbia, SC to teach Spanish. She is now completing a Masters degree in Spanish at Columbia University in New York.

Scott Neely

Pays sans chapeau: Living and Not Dying in Haiti

A multi-media interpretation of Dany Laferriere's novel, Pays sans chapeau. Includes sections of the novel, Haitian art, music, historical background,videotaped interviews, documentary footage, and film clips.

Scott returned from traveling the world as Presidential Scholar, spent a year on the Wofford campus and then hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. After working for the Palmetto Trail project in SC for a time, Scott is now at Harvard Divinity School. scottneely@hotmail.com

Crossing the Border: An Intimate Portrait

A study of undocumented workers from Mexico focusing on their reasons for coming to the U.S., their life here, the culture of the border, and the ways in which they enter this country. Includes videotaped interviews in Spanish with undocumented workers.

Themis is working for Western Union as a territory manager out of Greenville/Spartanburg. She reports that she was hired for her ability to speak Spanish and her Certificate in Latin American Studies.
