Prof. Charles D. Kay

Prof. Kay joined the Wofford faculty in 1986 and has taught Humanities 101 in alternate years ever since.  His topic for 2006, Prisoners of War: A Series of Encounters, participates in the college-wide "War" theme for the academic year and examines a selection of novels and memoirs of individuals trapped in the consequences of 20th century military conflicts.  For students in Hum 101-D, Prof. Kay will also serve as academic advisor in their Freshman and Sophomore years until they declare a major.

Prof. Kay earned his bachelor degree from Princeton University and the M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in the History and Philosophy of Science.  At Wofford College, he also teaches courses in Science & Religion, BioMedical Ethics, and Early Modern European Philosophy.  A past president of the South Carolina Society of Philosophy, Prof. Kay is also a member of the Ethics Committee of Spartanburg Regional Medical Centers and the Bioethics Committee of the South Carolina Medical Association.

This summer, Prof. Kay will serve as the first director of the Wofford Community of Scholars summer research program.  He will also travel to Prague in July to participate in the PATEFO theological conference where he will be delivering a paper on the ethics of stem cell research.
