Syllabus

 

Weekly Calendar:

Week 1:

Stereotaxic Techniques in Neuroscience: Demonstration

Purpose: This lab is intended to demonstrate rodent survival brain surgery in order to introduce you to a commonly used procedure in Neuroscience.

 

Weeks 2,3, & 4:

Sheep Brain Dissection and Anatomy

Purpose: This lab is intended to familiarize the student with the gross anatomy of the mammalian brain as well as integrate structure function relationships.

Weeks 5, 6, 7, & 8:

Electrophysiological Investigation of Membrane Potential

Purpose: This lab is intended to introduce the students to commonly used techniques in intracellular electrophysiological recording as well as the relationship of ion concentrations and membrane permeabilities to cell activity.

Weeks 9, 10, 11 & 13 [Note, No Lab Week 12 (Thanksgiving week)]

Experimental Design- Independent Investigations in Neurobiology

Purpose: This lab is intended to introduce the student to experimental design as allow the student to conduct a lengthy research project of their own design. Students will work closely with the instruction to design and conduct a project in Neurobiology.

 

 

Week 14:

Presentations of Research

Purpose: Lab time this week will be used for student presentations of their results.
