The elementary students wrote one of 3 types of poems inspired by their natural surroundings. For sample poems written by the kids, click the links below.

In "Simile" poems the children used "like" or "as" to relate objects from nature to the more familiar.

"Color" poems were based on a color that the children observed around them.

"I wish" poems began with this phrase and grew from there.

Thomas Pierce (in background) led the "simile" poetry group. The pride of accomplishment is easy to see!   Ginny Gray and Carter Pearson (middle background) led a group in developing "I wish" poems.

Here, Tiffany Bulter led a successful group developing "color" poems.   This young man was just getting started on his "I wish" poem.
