Exploring the Congaree with Rudy

Our capstone experience for the semester came on November 29, 2001 when we met Naturalist (and host of the PBS-SCETV series "Nature Scene") Rudy Mancke at the Congaree Swamp National Monument outside of Columbia, South Carolina

"...Rudy Mancke. That guy is downright inspirational. He possesses more knowledge than any person I've ever met. His love for nature is contagious. He was constantly reminding us of a big secret: the world is fascinating, learn all that you can about it. Rudy inspired us with his joy for learning. Every second of our lives can be a field trip if we want it to be. And we should want it to be. We should develop an insatiable thirst for knowledge. The more we learn about the earth, the more incredible it will become, and the more incredible it is, the more we will love it." (Chris Dawson, Wofford freshman, on his final exam).
