Thematic Portfolio
last updated 27 January 2002 at 4:00 pm
Each student is to create a series of 6-12 photographs addressing an obvious
theme. These photographs are to demonstrate competency in the technical and
artistic aspects of photography according to the reading assignments, classroom
discussions, and individual consultations with the instructor. Choose a theme
that will allow you to demonstrate a variety of techniques you have mastered.
For instance, a series of photographs in which the lighting, camera position,
framing, and balance are similar will likely be less appealing than a series
where each of these parameters varies from image to image, yet the theme is
maintained.
Think back to "Why photograph?"
and attempt to photograph a message, a story, a collection of photographs
with a purpose.
Show that you can "write with light!"
The possibilities are endless. Some ideas......
- hands
- a geometric shape (lines, circles, curves, triangles, rectangles, etc.)
