When one looks at the breath and depth of our current environmental situation it can be overwhelming. There is a feeling that even if I turn off the lights, or I recycle my impact will be too small to make a differnce. And while yes, this is true, this page will hopefully offer some insights into other actions you can take that will make a big difference. One thing is for certain, that living in harmony with nature, rather than just taking what it has to offer, will requier a compleate rexamination of every facet of our lives.

What You Can Really Do To Save The Planet

  • Read up on growing your own garden. Start wherever you can, if it is just plants in your window, or a little patch outside, get growing! Taking agriculture away from oil intensive production is the first step towards sustainability. And Bonus: look up Polyculture and permaculture: growing food in an ecosystem rather than a crop.

  • Don't Buy. Don't buy anything, buy as little as you can. It is our overconsumptive lifestyles that is mainly to blame for this worldwide crisis. Buy used, preowned, locally made just don't buy anything made from big corporations, spend all you can on your local economy.

  • Stop driving, get rid of your car. Today. If you must have a car go ahead and get a very small one, motorcycle, moped, or bio-disel. America uses 21 million barrels of oil a day. This is the biggest obstacle to being able to live as if another 1,000 generations are going to inhabit this planet.

  • Do an energy Audit on your home. Find out what you can do to use less water, energy, and lower your heating bills. This will save your family money, especially if energy costs rise in the future. And it will help the earth.

  • Get Political! The more phone calls, emails, and letters politicians recive the more time they will put into environmental issues.

  • Join a group! Every movemet for change that has succede in America has been the result of large numbers of people getting organized and then all working in their own local areas. The Environmental movement is no differt.

  • Find meaning in your life beyond material possesions. Then tell us all how you did it.
